Carolyn Amadatsu
Have you ever wondered what your special purpose in life is? Have you ever asked Jesus why He put you on this earth? For many the question of life’s meaning and purpose is commonplace and not easily answered.
Carolyn Amadatsu, who helps lead the discipleship course Foundations for Living on Tuesday morning, has struggled with this difficult question herself. Fortunately, she is one of the lucky ones that has learned the answer.
At 29 years old, Carolyn accepted the Lord into her heart and was filled with an intense passion for God.
“I was so excited and thankful for what Christ had done for me that I wanted to tell everyone I met,” she said. “It didn’t take me long to realize something was wrong. Not many people reacted the same way I did. In fact, I turned a lot of them off by my eager persuasiveness.”
Fortunately, this eagerness led her in the right direction. While taking Foundations for Living, she learned that God did want to use her to win others to Him, just not in her own strength.
“It would only be as I surrendered myself to Christ and relied on the Holy Spirit’s power that it might happen,” she explained. “The Holy Spirit would give me the courage, boldness, confidence, ability and insight I needed to be His witness.”
Not only did Carolyn learn that the Lord was eager to use her, she learned that it was her purpose in life to share His word with others.
“I learned that Christ would use any willing, empty vessel – that he sets up the appointments as we go about our ordinary everyday life,” she said. “My job is just to love the people that he puts in my path and wait on Him.”
Carolyn is passionate about this important calling. She always carries a little witnessing booklet called “Steps to peace with God” in her purse and is ready to share when God creates the opportunity.
“I’ve put together my own testimony and I always seek to identify with that person with whom I am sharing,” she added.
To Carolyn, sharing the gospel is like the story in 2 Kings, chapter 7.
“We are all simply like the two starving lepers who had found bread,” she said. “We want to tell other beggars where they too can find bread.”
“We have the privilege and responsibility to share how we found New Life. It is known as witnessing.”
